MSCI vs LWM2M for RV50

SteveA Jun 25, 2018 03:40 PM

I have just purchased two new RV50 modems.  When they arrived they had two different firmware versions, so I updated them both to the latest version (4.9.3.002) the same way I've done it for our other RV50 modems.  I manage the modems through Sierra Wireless's AirVantage software and noticed that these two new ones are using the older MSCI protocol rather than the newer LWM2M protocol that my other modems are using.  Since I've updated all of our modems the same way, does anyone know how to get them on the newer protocol and why they would be using the older one?  I haven't used them to collect any data yet, and I'm not anticipating any issues since I'm able to access them remotely, but it's just been bothering me that I don't understand why it's doing what it's doing.

Thanks,

Steve

As a follow up to this question, I emailed Sierra Wireless and they forwarded my question (which contained the S/N of the two units) to their Support team.  About a day later the two modems which were powered up and sitting on my desk both re-booted at the same time, after that they had the LWM2M protocol.  So I don't know for sure if it was Sierra Wireless, or just letting them sit for a while, but problem solved I guess...except that I still don't understand why they did what they did.  If anyone ends up learning more about this I'd be curious to learn more.

Thanks,

Steve
