The SNOTEL data acquisition system measures the sensors with Campbell Scientific's dataloggers, then transmits the data using MeteorBurst Communications Master Stations in Boise, Idaho and Ogden, Utah. They collect snowpack and other weather data from approximately 700 sites in the mountains of the Western United States. The data is used to generate water supply forecasts for farmers.
